A message from President Michael Gottfredson
Dear Friends of the University of Oregon,
During the 2013 session, the Oregon Legislature passed Senate Bill 270, establishing institutional governing boards for the University of Oregon and other Oregon universities.
A local board dedicated to our campus and our students offers an opportunity for us to transform public higher education in our state and recommit ourselves to our public mission. This structure will create new efficiencies in our operations, leverage new support for innovation and research, and open the doors to new philanthropic opportunities. With the support of a board focused on the individual mission of our university and intimately connected to our campus, we will work together to provide Oregon students with access to a top-tier education at one of the nation’s premier public research universities.
This is a time of great opportunity, as well as great responsibility. We have the ability to create a path forward that is remarkable, led by a clear vision of our future, steeped in a full sense of our public mission, and rooted in our noble, singular past. I encourage you to use this site as a resource to become more familiar with the institutional board structure and process, and how it will affect our university.
